3…2…1…Go…Wait!!!

Twenty-three hours of travel during a pandemic was actually one of the best travel experiences to date. But let’s rewind a little bit. March 21st: Departure Day. I was all packed, ready to print my ticket and in two short hours leave for the hour-long ride to the DC airport, when….

Word to the wise: always read the fine print!

Lauren

Yes, that is when I noticed the fine print stating that this particular airline allowed one bag, physically carried onto the plane, weighing less than 15 pounds. Usually, I would say no problem. However, when you are moving your whole life to the otherside of the world, with your team telling you a long list of what to bring and not bring; let’s just say, that was not going to happen!

So, I kid you not, with about an hour left before we left, I did some cram-packing. That is my newly created word for literally cramming things in bags, as we (the whole family) went looking around the house for things to throw in the bag. Then weighing all the bags, undoing everything, switching them to other bags…AHHH! I wish this last-minute stress packing on no one!

Made it!

Long story, short: we made it! In the car, to the airport, to the ticket counter with all bags under the weight limit and on their way!!! Woohoo!!! Leaving me to go through security and board plane number one.

With less than one hundred people on both planes, combined, there was excellent service and room for every person to have their own row to stretch out. Like I said, one of the best flight experiences I have ever had. After landing and making it through airport security, immigration checks, and baggage claim, I was on my way to my quarantine site for 16 days.

I had made it! I was in the country I had been working towards for five years. I should have kissed the ground when I arrived, but the only things on my mind were sleep and a long shower!

Take a look at my first moments in the hotel room for my quarantine and just wait for more videos to come!
