Outside four Walls (Part 2)

O

I wrote the first part of this post back in my quarantine, days after arriving in Thailand. Now, it has been two months and have had quite an interesting journey. Are you ready?

My previous post was about now much fear I had about actually having this dream come true. Now, things are beginning to be more and more “normal” and comfortable, but that fear still exists. I live in a small, historical town where it is always hot and not many people share my skin color. Things here are different. For example, traffic “laws”, how and where to get food, you go to immigration all the time, people wait for every thing because it means more social media time, and if you didn’t take a picture, it is as if it didn’t happen!

This month I got a mode of transportations-a motorcycle. This allowed me to physically get out and explore this culture and town. However, I was nervous because of my lack of language skills. There is not a day that goes by without a mental battle about language. Motivated to learn, but also upset that I am not getting it instantaneously. I understand it takes time, but relationship building would be so much easier if suddenly I could understand what was going on around me.

Since I really have broken outside my four walls, even with the battle with language, I have been blessed to experience some incredible things. Whether this is truly just the honeymoon phase (alluding to my next post), or just how I am taking things in, I am incredibly thankful.

Take a look at a couple videos to show you just a glimpse of life here. Enjoy!
